Congressman Ron Paul formally declared his candidacy
for the Republican presidential nomination on March 12, 2007. Since
then more and more Christians are waking up to the fact that Ron
Paul is the Presidential candidate who best represents Christian
values and principles. Ron Paul not only professes to be
a Christian but his life and political career have been a model
of humility and service to others. Here is a man who's profession
of faith is not merely a type of pandering to "get the Christian
vote" but is in fact a clear record of Christian principles
in action. A brief overview of Ron Paul's career: • Ron Paul is a veteran who served in the Air Force as a flight surgeon from 1963 - 1965. • As a physician, Ron Paul has specialized in obstetrics and gynecology and has delivered more than 4,000 babies. • Ron Paul currently represents the 14th district in Texas (south of Houston) in the U.S. House of Representatives. • He is serving his 10th term in Congress. • He is the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee. • He is the former honorary chair of the Republican Liberty Caucus. • He consistently scores a perfect 100 on The New American magazine's "Conservative Index." • He has received many awards and honors such as the National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, Council for a Competitive Economy, and Young Americans for Freedom. Where Ron Paul stands on some of the issues: • Ron Paul is a man of faith. He is a Protestant Christian and a regular churchgoer. • Ron Paul is pro-life. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, he has delivered more than 4,000 babies. Dr. Paul is not just an opponent of partial-birth abortion; he is an opponent of abortion itself. He is also opposed to federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. • Ron Paul is a believer in family values. Unlike many Christian "leaders" and Republican politicians who have admitted to adulterous affairs and/or been married multiple times, Dr. Paul has been married to the same woman for fifty years. He and his wife have been blessed with five children and seventeen grandchildren. • Ron Paul is opposed to same-sex marriage. Although he doesn't want to strip homosexuals of their civil rights, he has voted to prohibit federal funding for the joint adoption of a child between individuals who are not related by blood or marriage. • Ron Paul is a veteran and is opposed to the war in Iraq. He voted to keep us out of the Iraq war because pre-emptive war goes against the Christian philosophy of a just war. • Ron Paul is opposed to unrestricted immigration and amnesty for illegal aliens. Because he believes that true citizenship requires cultural connections and an allegiance to the United States, he favors an end to birthright citizenship. And because he believes that it insults legal immigrants, he does not favor amnesty for illegal immigrants in any form. He opposes welfare state subsidies for illegal immigrants that alienate taxpayers and breed suspicion of immigrants. Dr. Paul also believes that all federal government business should be conducted in English. • Ron Paul is against the tyranny imposed on the American people by our Government through the IRS and has vowed to reform our tax system. He opposes the Federal Reserve and our current fiat monetary system. • Ron Paul is a strict constitutionalist. He never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. He has consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending, and regulation. Congressman Paul was recently recognized, for the tenth year in a row, as a "Taxpayer's Friend" by the National Taxpayers Union. • Ron Paul is opposed to the United Nations. He has introduced legislation to withdraw the United States from the UN. Dr. Paul believes that the UN is rife with corruption. It serves as a forum for rampant anti-Americanism. Instead of being reformed, the UN needs to be renounced. Dr. Paul is against any kind of world government or new world order. • Ron Paul is the premier advocate for liberty in politics today. He believes in absolute religious and political liberty for all Americans. He strongly supports private property rights. He believes that government exists to protect the life, liberty, and property of its citizens. RON PAUL IN HIS OWN WORDS: • On his belief that the Constitution no longer is at the center of the government: "Ninety-nine percent of everything in the Constitution is to restrict the federal government — it's not to restrain the people. And yet today the people are being restrained and the government isn't restrained. And the people no longer have their privacy and the government has all the secrecy" • On his belief that the war in Iraq is unconstitutional because Congress didn't provide a declaration of war: "If you give up one part of the Constitution, you give up the whole thing because it becomes arbitrary for the executive branch and the judicial branch and the legislative branch. And that's where we are — we are an arbitrary government today. The government does what they please with no restraint" • On his campaign drawing supporters from across the political spectrum: "There is only one thing — the Constitution and freedom — that brings people together. And it's not divisive. We are not confrontational and we're very tolerant of other people's views. That's why individuals can come no matter what views they have" • On the Federal Reserve injecting more than $100 billion of extra liquidity into the banking system to stabilize a stock market rattled by the U.S. subprime mortgage implosion: "Who is going to pay for that? The taxpayer will pay for that. The people in the financial markets that took all these risks, they are getting bailed out. I think the average guy knows a lot more about that than anybody gives them credit for" • On his campaign: "In
many ways what we are doing is sort of a stealth campaign. Maybe
ignoring us for a while isn't all that bad, as long as we do the
work and show up with the votes" |
